Components
SOK’s Custom 5-slot rack is prepackaged with the following components:
- 4 Vertical Posts (2 matching sets, left & right)
- 10 matching “U” shaped channels (horizontal front/back supports)
- 10 “L” rails (5 sets left and 5 sets right)
- 80 M6x1.25 Oval-head screws
- Excluded:Square nuts & screws for securing batteries – they are shipped in the box with the batteries
Assembly
The custom racks for the SK48v100 are shipped disassembled, however are quite easy to assemble with a #3 Phillips screwdriver. We have provided the following video to demonstrate the assembly process, but please note this video is the original 4-slot rack (now upgraded to 5-slot) and the video shows bolts with a hex-head which are now a standard oval-shaped head:
Rack Installation
After assembly, we highly recommend anchoring the rack to the ground. Without anchors it could topple over which could cause serious injury and damage not covered by warranty. When anchoring into concrete, we suggest a 3/8″ wedge anchor embedded at least 2 inches into the concrete. For anchoring into wood, we suggest at least a 3/8″ x 1 1/2″ lag bolt, preferably into a floor joist. Always follow the fastener’s direction for pre-drilling and torque spec. Anchor the rack before installing the batteries, as they will block the access required for fastener installation.
Tips
A few tips for assembly & Rack installation:
- Assemble with screws loose to allow for minor adjustment during rack assembly. When all parts of the frame are in place, set the rack on level ground and tighten all screws to spec. This will ensure you don’t end up with a teeter-tottering rack.
- Start the screws by hand to prevent cross-threading.
- Install the square nuts into the rack before installing the batteries, as the batteries block the accessibility needed to install the nuts.

While a torque wrench isn’t critical, if using one we recommend a torque of 4 N·m (44.2 in.-lbf) for all bolts securing the rack together.

Installing Batteries
To prevent a tip over hazard, racks should always be loaded from bottom to top, as illustrated in the diagram.
Battery racks and server racks containing batteries should be anchored to the floor and have added earthquake brackets to prevent being tipped over. Not all manufacturers include outriggers or other means of appropriate tip-prevention, but they must be added for safe operation.
Since the SOK Battery can fit into a wide variety of standard EIA racks, we cannot predict the implications of every possible installation. Common sense must be exercised by the installer to ensure safe practice, such as keeping the center of gravity low and remaining within the weight rating of the rack the batteries are installed in.
Utilizing a 19″ EIA Server Rack for Batteries
When using a third-party EIA server rack for your batteries, you must use rails at minimum (full metal rack shelf is preferred) to support the full weight of the battery. The front ears are only meant for preventing the battery from sliding out of the front of the rack. Damage caused by opting out of using rack rails is not covered by warranty.
Batteries can be installed with one battery directly above another without a rack space between them (no cooling requirement).
